Spread The Love

So, while I was in Chicago, I attended the Spread The Love workshop put on by Justin & Mary Marantz, and Sarah Barlow. It was a great time of meeting new friends, talking through every aspect of our businesses, and of course, shooting some photos!

Our first shoot was an engagement session with the amazing Beth & Nick. They’re getting married in just a matter of days! They were totally great to work with, and it helped that they’re just gorgeous :) It was so fun shooting a couple again (it’s been a long winter!) and I took like a million photos. I edited it down a bit for you though :) Check them out…

It was interesting shooting with 15 other photographers, but Justin & Mary and Sarah did a great job of balancing demonstrating their own techniques and giving each of us an opportunity to take control of the shoot. This was definitely one of the highlights of the workshop! (more to come…)

A trip to Chicago

A couple weeks ago, I got to spend some time in Chicago for a photography workshop. I flew out a couple days early to hang out and visit my old stomping grounds. Ah, to be home again :) It was so great catching up with old friends, walking down familiar streets, eating good pizza, and just waking up each day in the city. I mean, check out the view from my friends’ amazing apartment where I stayed…

at bedtime I could see the moonlight reflecting on the lake…

and when I woke up in the morning, I could see the skyline – both the Hancock & the Sears Tower. Don’t you just love it?!

I knew I missed Chicago, but I didn’t realize how much a part of me the city really is! I thought for a while that it was just Massachusetts that didn’t suit me. But the truth is that it’s SUBURBIA that doesn’t fit! I just don’t think I was made to live in the suburbs (sorry Woburn!). Who knows, maybe I’ll move closer in to Boston one of these days?

It was nice to be home though, and to be with some of my favorite people in the world. I’m thankful that I was able to see so many friends, and that I got a few free days in the city before the workshop began (more on that later…)

Abigail’s Dedication

This weekend, I photographed the dedication of my friends, Jonathan & Diana’s baby Abigail. In our church, we don’t have christenings for babies, but we have a ceremony where they are dedicated to God. It’s not a big fancy thing, but it is definitely special. It was even more special because it was Diana’s first Mother’s Day!

Abigail was a bit freaked out by all of the lights and the strangers looking at her, at first…

But soon she was able to relax and just rest in her mother’s arms

The gown Abigail is wearing was once Diana’s Grandmother’s wedding dress. It was later turned into a christening gown for Diana’s mother, and then Diana wore it for her christening. Abigail is the fourth generation to wear it!

That’s my brother-in-law (our pastor) praying for Abigail and her parents

Congratulations little Abigail! What a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Moms out there! Especially to my two favorite Moms – my Mother, Shelia, and my Sister, Kyla! I think you’re both the greatest and I hope I can be a mom like you someday :)

Normally for Mother’s Day I’d spend the day helping my Mom buy flowers for her garden, and then watching her fill her flowerbeds with new flowers. But, this year, I can’t be there with her. So, here’s a picture of some geraniums, her favorite flower instead :)

I hope you have a wonderful day Mom!!!!!

And to all of my other favorite Moms – my two wonderful Grandmothers, GaGa & GiGi – my awesome Aunts & Cousins – Mommy Aruta – and all my dear friends who have become great moms – Happy Mothers’ Day!!!

And just for fun, here’s a video that we produced at Genesis for our Moms:

Hope For The Children of Haiti

One of my portrait clients is on the board for an organization called Hope For the Children of Haiti. Well, they’re not just on the board – but they’ve adopted 3 teenage boys through the ministry! To say that Hope For the Children of Haiti is a big part of their lives would be quite an understatement.

A few weeks ago we started talking about the possibility of me going down to Port-Au-Prince to document the ministry’s orphanage & school – and of course, the kids. Well, yesterday we bought our tickets and it’s official! I am so excited about the opportunity to work with HFC, and for the chance to visit Haiti for the first time! I have many friends who have visited Haiti, and this orphanage in particular, so I’m really looking forward to seeing it with my own eyes, and bringing that back to all of you. I’ll be heading down there at the end of the month, so stay tuned for photos and stories from Port-Au-Prince this summer!!

Living the hard life

Well, don’t feel too bad for me… I’m living the hard life down in Ft. Myers, Florida this week. I’m on vacation with my parents & sister (and her adorable family). It’s hard spending this much time on the beach and by the pool, but I’m doing my best :)

I’ve got lots to share when I got back to Boston! Pictures from my week in Chicago, pictures from vacation, and a bunch of engagement sessions coming up in the next few weeks. So, stay tuned! And try not to be jealous ;)

Abigail Marie

A couple weeks ago, my dear friend Diana gave birth to a BEAUTIFUL baby girl, Abigail Marie! Abigail is SO adorable – she came out perfect :) Diana and her husband Jonathan are first time parents and it’s so fun to see them on this exciting new adventure. I had the chance to visit them this week and take some portraits of the new baby and the new mommy. Check them out…

Diana is going to be such an awesome Mom!

Abigail was one tired little girl!

Sweet Princess :)

Look at that precious little profile!!

She’s just sooo cute!

Congratulations once again Diana & Jonathan! And welcome to the world little Abigail – you are in very good hands :)
