Britt & Mike’s eSession – Chatham, MA

A few months ago, I met Britt & Mike and we tried to have a fun engagement shoot by Fenway Park, but the weather didn’t really cooperate. Since they live in Washington D.C., it wasn’t so easy to reschedule. So we decided to wait until they came up to Boston during the winter and have a fun, snowy engagement session instead. Well… the weather didn’t exactly cooperate with that idea either! When they came up to the Cape for Valentine’s Day, the skies were blue and the snow was GONE! Oh well! We had a fun time wandering around Chatham anyway, and I was totally thrilled by how the photos turned out – so it all worked out all right :)

We spent the afternoon walking around downtown Chatham and kicked off the shoot at a little park with a band stand.

Cape Cod Engagement Session

Like so many of my grooms, Mike’s not a big fan of having his photo taken. So, we spend a lot of time just laughing and getting everyone relaxed. I also spend a lot of time pretending like I’m not taking pictures ;)

Cape Cod Engagement Session

I looooove Britt’s engagement ring!

Cape Cod Engagement Session

After the park, we went to a candy shop, and then kept walking down the road. Britt kept telling us that the beach where they’ll be married this May was “just a little farther” down the road. After walking pretty far along the road in the cold, we decided to just walk down to the beach, and take the beach route the rest of the way. It was gorgeous!

Cape Cod Engagement Session

Britt was excited to get down to water and show us how close we were! Too bad there were all those rocks in our way. haha!

Cape Cod Engagement Session

I love that Mike spontaneously picked Britt up and started spinning her around! I try to direct my couples as little as possible so the photos are really natural, and reflect the true nature of their relationship. It’s always fun for me when the true nature of their relationship is to be really playful and make each other laugh like crazy!

or to tease them mercilessly ;)

Gotta love those argyle socks :)

Cape Cod Engagement Session

I seem to get a photo like this of almost every couple… Groom staring off in the distance, Bride looking dreamily up at Groom. You people in love are all so cute!

Cape Cod Engagement Session

On the other side of the beach, there was this super-tall beach grass. I’ve always wanted to do this, so I asked them if they’d be willing to walk in for a few photos. I was so pumped that they were willing to tromp in, and they turned out to be my favorite photos of the day!!

very serious, Mike!

And would you look at that? A photo of Mike looking at the camera and SMILING – like for real! Amazing! See, I told you it wouldn’t hurt ;)

And by that point, we were pretty much frozen, so we made our way out of the grass and back up to the road.

After all of that excitement, we still had to walk back to town. Britt apologized a hundred times for taking us so far away, but I didn’t mind :] It was totally worth it!

Britt & Mike – thanks for a fun afternoon! It was great to see you again, and I’m so glad we got to go check out the house where the wedding will be – it’s got me all excited for the big day this May! And thanks especially for the cookie offer last week – you guys are so sweet and I’m so blessed to get to work with people like you! It feels a lot less like “work” when you get to hang out with warm, wonderful people on days when they’re super happy :D

Laura & Bearden – An Anniversary Shoot in Central Park

Last Fall, I took a little trip to New York City for PDN PhotoPlus Expo. My friend Erica asked her friends Laura & Bearden if we could stay with them at their place while we were in town. They were fabulous hosts, and as a thank you, I spent an afternoon taking some Anniversary Photos of them in Central Park. It was so fun! Laura & Bearden are fascinating people, and it was doubly cool since I’d never been to Central Park before!

It was right about this point when one of Bearden’s students came along and saw us. Bearden spent the rest of the afternoon looking over his shoulder to see if there were students around. I think he was a little embarrassed to be seen out on a photo shoot ;)

How much do you love Laura’s Orla Kiely bag?!

Kristopher & Erin’s eSession

While I was in Indianapolis, I had the chance to take some engagement photos for my cousin, Kristopher and his fiance, Erin. Kris & Erin are getting married this summer, and I’m really excited to go home to photograph it! Kris is a filmmaker and they’re having their wedding at a theatre, which is just going to be so cool!

The weather didn’t really cooperate with us while we tried to combine a family gathering and an engagement session into one afternoon. So we stayed close to home and basically shot everything in my parents’ neighborhood. It turned out to be a pretty cool spot, and even though we were all FREEZING, we had a fun time!

Kris & Erin's Engagement Session

Kris is a bit of a joker. Ok, that’s an understatement. He’s frikkin’ hilarious and always making me laugh! It was cool for me to see him with Erin – to see how funny they are together and how much they enjoy each other, and that she always laughs at his jokes ;)

Kris & Erin's Engagement Session

This is totally my favorite! I love it when you can see people smiling even when they’re kissing :)

Kris & Erin's Engagement Session

Per my Mom’s request, we shot a few photos by the berries ;)

Susan’s Maternity Photos – Indianapolis, IN

Those of you who know me, know that I’m completely in love with (um, addicted to?) Facebook. Well, this is one of the reasons. I have found so many old friends in the last few months that I’d completely lost touch with years ago, that it just blows my mind! It is so fun to connect with them again and see what they’re up to, and better yet, get to actually see them live and in person again! Susan is one of those friends. We were roommates my senior year at Butler, and we lost touch sometime after I moved to Chicago. We recently found each other on Facebook and I was surprised and excited to see that she’s married the love of her life, and was pregnant with her THIRD child! woah! So, when I was in Indianapolis last, we got together for a maternity portrait session, and about 6 hours of much-needed catch-up time! It was wonderful!!

Now on to the part you all really care about, the photos ;)

Sue was always beautiful, but there’s something about being pregnant that makes a woman radiant!

*favorite*

I love the belly!!

Haha! I must be hilarious ;) Actually, no, she’s the hilarious one… I think she’s laughing at her own impression of a model here.

Using a little of that natural light

See what I mean? Gorgeous!!

Susan’s 2 little boys wanted in on the fun, and desperately wanted to see what Mommy was looking at out the window…

So, we thought we’d add them into the shoot! This is Sam, he’s adorable.

And this is Jack, he’s rather hilarious.

and also adorable.

You can tell these boys love their Mommy!

Sue – it was SO fabulous to see you and meet your lovely family! I’m glad we got to spend some time together and catch up after all these years. It’s so great to know that we’ll be able to stay in touch pretty much forever now, thanks to modern technology ;) Congratulations on the birth of baby Lily! I can’t wait to meet her next time I’m home!!! LOVE YOU!!

Oh, and for those of you on Facebook – you can become a Fan of Krista Photography here. If we actually know each other – add me as a friend already! If we’ve never met, introduce yourself and maybe we’ll become friends :) I won’t add anyone I don’t know since I actually use FB to post family photos and such, but I am always happy to make new friends in real life!!

Jessica & Albert’s Trash The Dress Session – Part 2

And now, for Part 2 of Jessica & Albert’s Trash The Dress Session!! (scroll down or click here to see Part 1)

Once Albert got home from work, we headed outside to take advantage of the remaining sunlight while the rain let up. We had to go back to the graffiti wall…

I would love to know what he said to her here!

Now, you may remember from their eSession photos, that Albert can jump. Like, he can jump really high. So, we had to recreate the magic…

He even busted out some new moves!

Then we headed back down…

…and found a little patch of sunlight breaking through the clouds…

…which happened to be right next to this really cool alley.

This one is my favorite jumping shot of them all!!!

Then we went back to the house to capture Jessica & Albert in their natural environment… eh hem…

Nerf Guns are apparently the best wedding gift, ever :)

Unless, of course, you give them his & her Macs!

Jessica & Albert – I love you guys! It’s been soooo fun hanging out with you, photographing you, and getting to know you both over the last year! I can’t wait to put together an awesome and FUN wedding album for you in the coming weeks :)

Oh, and for the record, after getting it cleaned, Jessica donated her dress to Brides Against Breast Cancer – which I think is pretty freakin’ awesome!!! If you want to learn more about the organization or want to find out how to donate your dress, click here!

Jessica’s Trash The Dress Session – part 1

Last Spring I posted a Trash The Dress session that I shot in Las Vegas while I was there for WPPI. In the same post, I offered a FREE TTD session to the first 2 brides to respond. As I expected, Jessica was the first to take me up on my offer! (no one else took me up on it, so I suppose there’s still one more spot available…) I think it’s high time I shared the photos from our afternoon together. We had such a fun shoot and there are so many hilarious and wonderful images that it’s gonna get 2 posts!!

First up, are the images of we captured of Jessica before her honey, Albert got home…

This is the garage behind their apartment building. The perfect spot for portraits, especially on a rainy day…

The roof of the garage has this awesome deck…

I think this one’s my FAVORITE!!

The weather wasn’t really cooperating with us, so we had to get a little creative… We decided to photograph Jessica preparing dinner for Albert – wifely duties and all ;) But first, we had to go to the grocery store to pick up a few necessitites….

I mean, how awesome is this?! A bride walking around a grocery store in her wedding dress?! It was so fun!

we were getting all sorts of crazy looks from people…

Eventually the manager kicked me out for taking photos. Um, I’m fairly certain that I have a right to take pictures in a grocery store, but whatever! We had the items we needed, so we headed back to the house to cook…

Isn’t this how all wives cook dinner?

mmmmm, yummy cheese puffs!

And while we waited for Albert to come home, life went on as usual…

Haha! Jessica you’re so fun!!!!

Stay tuned for part 2… :)

Annika’s Portrait Session

With weddings, I always do an engagement session with my couples. For my Bar/Bat Mitzvah clients, I like to do a family portrait session. It is such an awesome part of the process for me. I love spending time the families and getting to know them all a little better before the event. Just like with the eSessions, these family portraits can help everyone know what to expect and feel more comfortable in front of the camera on the big day. They are so helpful that I make them a required part of every package!

Unfortunately, Annika’s family wasn’t able to do the portrait session before her Bat Mitzvah because of a family emergency. Since they’re a “requirement” we decided to do them after the fact :) So a few weeks after the party, I visited them down in Newton and we captured a few portraits by the pond near their house.

Annika is such a cutie!

Sisters!!

The whole fam

What a bunch of jokers!

Then we headed back to their house for a few more…

I love this shot of the girls!

They have this fun little booth in their basement. The whole area is decorated in Coca-Cola paraphanalia – I knew I liked these people!! (in case you’ve never met me, when you do, I’ll probably have a Coke in my hand…)

A teenage girl’s bedroom is her solace, such an extension of herself – it can say so much about who she is. I thought it’d make a great spot for a few more natural shots of Annika…

Thanks again for everything you guys! I hope you LOVE the photos :)

Joe & Amanada’s Anniversary Portraits

Joe called me a couple of months ago with the idea to surprise his lovely wife, Amanda, with a photo shoot for their 5th anniversary. I thought that was flippin’ brilliant! You know what that tells me about Joe? It tells me he thinks his wife is just as beautiful as the day they got married, if not more. It tells me he really wants to make her feel special. And it tells me that he cherishes her as his wife as much as the mother of his children. I mean, how often do people get married, have kids, and never have another photo taken of just the two of them? Kids come along and suddenly, a lot of people forget that they’re still a couple. You know? So, anyway, I thought this was a great idea and I was really excited to help him surprise Amanda with a photo shoot downtown!

We met up at Christopher Columbus Park

I love this one! It’s so sweet :)

We walked by the harbor…

Then we took a little stroll in the North End. They have the best alleys in the North End!!

random ivy

The cobblestones of North Square

Totally cute!

And finally we finished off the shoot over at Faneuil Hall. I’m thinking one of these days, I’ll have to do a photo shoot where we just walk to the whole Freedom Trail. I mean, we hit a lot of it this day, but that’d be kinda cool… Any takers?

Joe & Amanda, it was so great to meet you both! I’m glad I could help you with the surprise – and Amanda, I hope you had a great time and felt really special! Congratulations on five wonderful years together!!!

Erin & Steve’s eSession

One evening late this summer, Erin & Steve were taking a walk down Commonwealth Avenue when suddenly, Steve got down on one knee and asked Erin to marry him. She said yes! And few weeks later I said yes, I would love to photograph their wedding! And a few weeks after that, we all agreed to head back down to Comm Ave and shoot their engagement photos! I mean, isn’t that the perfect place to do it?!

Like most of my couples, they started off a little nervous and not sure what to do. But the key is that I didn’t want them to do anything but be themselves! Once they got that, they were perfect!

I LOVE this one!!

So sweet!

Don’t you just love the way she looks at him?!

Erin’s engagement ring is gorgeous!

And I loved her shoes…

Seriously, these two are like straight out of a J. Crew ad!

Erin & Steve, it was so great to hang out with you! Even if we did have some random cloudiness on an otherwise gorgeous day :) Thanks for toughing out the cold and being such good sports. I can’t wait to shoot your wedding next August – it’s going to be so much fun!
