NOW HIRING: Studio Manager, Photo Editor, Intern

True Confession: I’ve never been a highly self-motivated person.  I’ve always been most successful working in a team environment.  From competing as a Synchronized Swimmer as a kid, and needing those other girls staring me down to get me to jump in the pool.  To working in my first photography job managing a big studio full of people.  To now as I’m building my own little team here at Krista Photography – I need other people around to help me do my best!  I really believe that we can all achieve more if we work together.  My ultimate goal for Krista Photography is that we’d have a group of awesome people working in their strengths and passions to create powerful photographs that capture the truth and beauty of life.
Sounds great, right?!
Well, we just need a couple more people to join our team to get us a little closer to that lofty goal of mine!

Take a look at our latest job openings and help us fill them by applying (see instructions at the bottom), or spreading the word!

For all of the positions, here are some things you should know…

What are we looking for?

  • People who will fit in well with our little team, our brand, and want to work together to grow and improve Krista Photography
  • Honest, detail-oriented, hard-working, creative, problem-solving go-getters who are eager to learn – and preferably fun :)
  • You’ll need a car to get to my home office in Woburn – and you’ll be a lot happier if it’s not a long commute (trust me ;)
  • People who are not seriously allergic to cats… the cat really does own the place
  • People who can commit to work here until the end of 2015 (or for the next 10 years, either way), and can start asap
  • Someone who’ll enjoy (or at least tolerate cheerfully) the craziness of working for a small business, in a home office… like friends with babies stopping by for visits, a cat stealing your chair EVERY time you get up, me never being ready for work when you get here in the morning, all that good stuff ;)

What will you get in return?

  • Relatively Flexible Hours
  • Fun, relaxed & productive work environment
  • The occasional Studio Starbucks run
  • You’ll probably get to hear me singing to myself a lot, get to pet my cat a lot, and be part of some of ridiculous photos :)
  • You’ll get to be part of a fabulous team, make some new friends, and hopefully have some fun while you’re here!
  • Pay commensurate with experience and final job description (and keep in mind that whole small business thing I was talking about…)

STUDIO MANAGER

What are we looking for?

  • One person to work part-time work – preferably 4-5 mornings/week (possibly an afternoon here & there and/or supplemental work from home)
  • Someone who is smart, well-organized, detail-oriented, hard-working, problem-solving, positive, a task-master, smooth-talker, fire-putter-outer, project manager, who can be the cheerful first point of contact for Krista Photography
  • Experience with some combination of Apple computers, Microsoft Office, Customer Service, and excellent Communication skills
  • Experience with Quickbooks, IT trouble-shooting, ShootQ, Blogstomp, Lightroom, Photoshop &/or InDesign a plus but not necessary

What kinds of things could you be doing?

  • Client Communication – you’d be the main point of contact for most clients and handle all of their questions, as well as sending them updates and information for their shoots
  • Inbox Management – i.e. going through my inbox to weed out what’s personal, spam, stuff you can handle vs. stuff I should handle personally
  • Quickbooks – I would LOVE someone I could train, or who knows QB already, to handle some of the data entry & invoicing in Quickbooks
  • Workflow Management –  keep up with where we are on each job and who’s supposed to be doing what, and keeping us on task
  • Shoot Workflow – uploading images to our proofing site & Facebook, releasing images to clients, prepping discs of images for clients, etc.

PHOTO EDITOR

What are we looking for?

  • One person to work part-time work – preferably 4 days/week (might be closer to full-time in the fall)
  • Honest, detail-oriented, hard-working, dedicated, creative, problem-solving go-getter who’s eager to learn – preferably someone fun :)
  • Experience with Apple computers, Lightroom and Photoshop
  • Some experience with PhotoMechanic, computer networking, IT trouble-shooting, monitor calibration, SmartAlbums, Blogstomp &/or InDesign a plus but not necessary
  • Someone with an excellent sense of color – can see slight differences between colors, and can learn to adjust color to the way I see it.  Take this test and let me know your score!
  • Someone who knows that the dress is WHITE & GOLD – even if it’s blue & black, because it’s just a terrible photograph ;)
  • Understanding of (or excitement to learn) what makes a great photograph – composition, exposure, focus, emotion, etc.
  • Someone who can come close to replacing the AMAZING & TALENTED CoCo Boardman here in the office!!  Big shoes people! BIG SHOES!! (don’t worry, she’ll train you and share all of her editing secrets with you! – and double don’t worry, she’s still gonna be shooting weddings – she can’t leave us all together!)

What kinds of things could you be doing?

  • Culling – You will have to take the entire selection of 5,000-10,000 images we shoot at a wedding and get that down to less than 1,500 for me to review!  I’m terrible at this, so I need someone who can really see whether an image is in focus, composed well, is meaningful to the greater story, etc and can make decisions quickly and confidently.  Over the course of the year, you will look at THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of weddings, engagements, babies, families, baptisms, international travel images, family vacations, etc… so you’ll need to enjoy that kind of thing ;)
  • Color Correction – You will color correct all shoots in Lightroom, based on my edits of the favorite images.  We aim for our images to look NATURAL, BRIGHT, and have a little POP to them. [see all the posts below this one for more details]
  • Photo Editing – You may edit images in Photoshop for printing – light retouching, precise color correction, sharpening, etc.
  • Album Design – You may end up designing wedding albums for our clients.  We use a combination of Smart Albums (SUPER easy), and InDesign.  You’ll be responsible for creating the design, proofing the design for the clients, making revisions, editing the images for printing, and placing the album orders.

  • Experience with some combination of Mac computers, Microsoft Office, Social Media, Lightroom, Photoshop & InDesign

UNTOUCHABLE: Children of God – Documentary Film Premiere

062013_D0238

Those of you who have been following our blog for a while probably know that I’ve been working on a documentary film by Code Red Films called UNTOUCHABLE: Children of God.  The whole process has been incredible – intensely challenging, highly emotional, but so unbelievably wonderful.

062013_D0056-Edit

I’ve met some of the strongest, bravest young women – more resilient than I could have ever imagined.  Their faith in God, and their faith in us has been humbling.  They have shared their stories with us and entrusted us to share them with the world, and that is no small thing.  I have grown to love them so very much and I WISH I could share their photos with you!  For their safety, I’ve opted to keep them offline and you’ll have to view the film to see their beautiful faces.

When can you see the film?  Well!  I’m glad you asked!!  The US premiere is coming up in just a few days!!  UNTOUCHABLE: Children of God will premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival on Wednesday, April 30 at 7:45pm PDT.  I’m excited to go out for the premiere and actually see the latest edit on the BIG SCREEN!  It’s going to be so cool!  Those of you who live in the area – please join us for the premiere!!!  Tickets are on sale now!

For those of you who don’t live in sunny California, don’t worry!  We are working on planning some screening opportunities in major cities across the US for later this year!  I’ll be sure to keep you posted, but you can follow the film on Facebook to get the latest updates.

This film has been such a blessing to me – I can’t wait to share it with all of you!!  See you in Newport Beach next week!!!

Wanted: One Awesome Intern

When I started out in photography almost 12 years ago, my first job was assisting at a big wedding studio in Chicago.  I remember the very first task they gave me… shovel the sidewalk :)  I started at the very bottom of the food chain.  As months went by, I became the studio manager, and then began shooting as an Associate photographer for the company.  A few years later, I moved out on my own and started at the bottom again in a new town.  I have worked hard over the years since I moved to Boston to create a business that I love, and to develop a TEAM that I love.  It’s no fun working alone, and I think everyone benefits from being part of a team – learning to work together, encouraging and challenging each other, and everyone focusing on their strengths and doing their part to make the sum so much greater than the parts!

Over the years, I’ve tried to pay that first opportunity forward.  I’ve brought on interns almost every year, and it’s been great!  I get some much-needed help, and they have hopefully had the chance to learn things they couldn’t have learned in school.  A few years ago, CoCo came along as an intern, and now she’s working as an Associate Photographer, as well as designing albums, editing photos, and all sorts of other great stuff!  Amy came onto the team last year, and has been handling all of our Vendor Relations, and blogging, and lots of the marketing piece.  I am loving this little team we’ve built!  But, we’re looking at some big, exciting changes ahead (announcements coming soon!) and have a lot of projects on our plates, so we’re hoping to find a new intern to add to the team!!  If you’re interested, check out the details below to see if you’d be a good fit!!

Untouchable film campaign is ending!

Screen Shot 2013-09-01 at 9.00.36 AM

After 28 1/2 days of running our campaign for the documentary film UNTOUCHABLE: Children of God, we are almost there!!  With 40 hours left to go, we have less than $3,000 to raise to meet our goal of $50,000!!!  I have been blown away by all of the support from my clients, friends, and fellow photographers!  So many people have given money, but also so many have just helped us spread the word – which is huge!  Last week, I was featured on two photography blogs about the project – LensProToGo Labs and Tiffinbox.  You can view my interview with Seshu from Tiffinbox below…

Lenspro screenshot

It seems like we’re right on track to hit our goal!  But now I have a new goal…  I want us to raise enough money that we can actually take home $50,000 for the film after the credit card processing fees and Indiegogo fees!  That’s another $4,000.  So, what do you think – can we raise $7,000 in the next 40 hours?!  With YOUR help, WE CAN!  Please take a moment to visit the fundraising page, make a donation in any amount you can, and share the link with your friends letting them know that time is running out.  Together, we can accomplish so much more than we ever could on our own!  Thank you for being part of this special project!

New Sightings!

Hey guys! I’ve got a really nice round of featured posts and Krista Photography sightings! Woohoo!

Let’s start with Averie and Keith featured on Style Me Pretty Destination. It looks so beautiful!

A shot from Averie & Keith’s Trash the Dress also spotted in WEDDING magazine, in their Real-Life wedding insert, the spread is so fun!

That’s them in the hammock! Swoon!

NEXT is the lovely Fran and James at the DeCordova who showed up on Modernly Wed!

AND last but not least, Meredith and John wedding at the Lyman Estate on the Wedding Yentas! Such a beautiful post they put together for us:

Thanks everyone for such wonderful features!

Better late than never…

Well, where do I start? First of all, Hi! I’m CoCo, Krista Photography’s first ever Associate Photographer! Woohoo! That’s me – ain’t I creepy!?

IMG_2623

In addition to fetching the occasional Chai Latte, designing albums, keeping in touch with clients and *trying* to run the show while Krista has been out of town, my cohort Amy and I have come up with a plan…. That’s her down there, isn’t she cute??

101612_D0095-Edit

Anyways, THE PLAN. The better late than never plan to blog the 23, that’s right t-w-e-n-t-y  t-h-r-e-e beautiful couples that we have neglected over I’m not even going to say how much time. It’s not that we don’t love you!! We do! Promise! And these weddings and people are so pretty and lovely and awesome! Regardless of when they were shot. But you know how these things go, you get “a little” behind, then that becomes “a lot” behind then that becomes “A LOT” behind. We are not proud of this… BUT we have a plan! So here’s the deal:

EVERY week, for TWENTY THREE weeks, I, with the help of Amy, will be posting about a new couple: showcasing their engagement, wedding, and details for your viewing pleasure. So keep checking back with us on Monday Wednesday and Friday for some absolutely beautiful pictures! Or maybe just to make sure I’m still doing my job ;)

And remember it’s better late than never, pay no attention to the date or season… just focus on the LOVE. And wish us luck!

We’ll see you for the first post, next Monday, December 10th!

Now Hiring!

It’s that time of year, and things are getting pretty busy over here at Krista Photography!  It’s shaping up to be our busiest season yet, which is awesome!   With all of this busyness comes a lot more work on the back end, and I’m realizing that CoCo and I can’t do it alone!  So, we’re looking for some more help around here…

What are we looking for?

  • One or 2 people to work part-time.
  • Background in photography, graphic design, marketing, administrative assisting, or other applicable skills
  • Honest, detail-oriented, hard-working, creative, problem-solver who’s eager to learn – preferably someone fun :)
  • Experience with some combination of Mac computers, Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, Social Media, Lightroom & Photoshop
  • You’ll need a car to get to my home office in Woburn
  • Someone who can start the sooner, the better!

What kinds of things could you be doing?

  • Managing vendor relations
  • Marketing & Social Media projects
  • Submitting images for publication
  • Updating & managing our website
  • Wedding Album Design
  • Administrative Tasks
  • Client Communication
  • Scheduling Assistants & Second Shooters
  • Culling & Color Correcting
  • Digital Asset Management
  • IT Troubleshooting
  • Assisting at weddings
  • Various projects
  • Cleaning the office for meetings :)

What will you get in return?

  • Pay commensurate with experience and final job description
  • Flexible Hours
  • Fun, relaxed & productive work environment
  • You’ll probably get to hear me singing to myself a lot, get to pet my cat a lot, and hopefully have a little fun while you’re here :)
  • You’ll get to work with US!  Who wouldn’t want that?!  :)

If you’re interested, please send an email telling me a bit about yourself, why you’re interested in working for Krista Photography, what kind of roles you’re interested in taking on, a link to your work if you’re a photographer, and a resume to kg@kristaphoto.com!  Looking forward to hearing from you!!!

Inspire 2012 is almost here!!

Inspire.

It started out as an idea… What if there was a conference that felt more like a community?  What if instead of flying around the country to hear people from California talk about running their businesses, we gathered photographers from right here in New England and asked them instead?  What if we did it ourselves?  These are the questions that Matt & Enna Grazier asked a few of us, as we all looked at them as if they were nuts.  Brilliant.  But nuts…  If it had been my idea, it probably would have stayed an idea, but the Grazier’s are people of action, and thank God for that!

What began as an idea, a question, grew into a real life conference we called Inspire Boston.  What was an incredible and inspiring two days in Concord with 100 photographers, grew to something more the next year… Inspire Boston 2011.  We added mentoring sessions, shooting workshops, and a vendor lounge and this time 125 people came from all over New England and beyond!

So, here we are, 3 years later, and it’s just 12 days until Inspire 2012 kicks off!  This year, we’ve changed the name from Inspire Boston to Inspire Photo Seminars – since it’s really not just about Boston anymore.  We’ve moved it to the Sturbridge Host so we could have a bit more space and be a little more centralized for our primarily MA/CT attendees.  We’ve got 18 Speaking Sessions, 8 Special Classes (shooting session, portfolio reviews, etc.), a special pre-conference all-day Pictage + ShootQ Bootcamp, an even bigger Vendor Lounge, a mid-conference party with KARAOKE (clearly that was my idea!), one-on-one and roundtable mentoring sessions with the speakers and sponsors, and a killer Wrap-Party at the end!  It is going to be a JAM-PACKED couple of days!!!

I’ll be speaking at Inspire this year on Facebook Marketing Strategies.  If you follow my blog, you’ve probably liked my Facebook page as well (and if not, what’s stopping you?!).  And if you follow both, you’ve probably noticed that I post on Facebook WAY more often than on here.  Facebook just makes it so EASY for me!  It has dramatically changed and grown my business over the last 3 years.  Last year my weddings doubled from the year before, and this year I’m almost entirely booked up for the year already!  I give most of that credit to how I share images and communicate via Facebook – but I guess I’ll give a little of the credit to my photographs too, yeah? ;)  I’ve been super excited to share my Facebook strategies and theories with the Inspire community, and wouldn’t you know it, Facebook went and changed everything about their business pages three weeks before the conference!  So, I’m reworking my talk and trying to learn as much about all the changes as possible, and now I’m even more excited :)  I mean, what better time to talk about how to set up and use a Facebook page than right when everything about them has changed and everyone’s wondering what to do?!  OK, so I’m excited and also a little overwhelmed, but I do think it’s an exciting time to be sharing about this and I’m hoping that it will be really beneficial to everyone to comes to my talk!

If you’re a photographer, and you aren’t signed up for Inspire yet, what are you waiting for?! It’s going to be FUN!  You’re going to meet a TON of awesome local photographers who may just become your nearest and dearest friends (I’ve gone on vacation with ladies I met at Inspire, and don’t get me started on how much I love the Planning Team).  You’re going to LEARN something new!  You’re going to leave feeling INSPIRED and EMPOWERED to make some great changes in your business and maybe even in your life.  It’s not too late to sign up and come be a part of it all!!  I’ve got a $50 off discount code that is good for the first 3 people who use it!  Go HERE and use the code KRISTAPHOTO2012 to get $50 off your registration!  I hope you can come!!!
