NOW HIRING – Studio Manager

Hello hello!!   After such a fun and busy year last year, and with this year looking even better, it seems like it’s time once again to add to our little team!  I need to get a lot of stuff off of my plate so I can focus on shooting, marketing, connecting with human beings face to face instead of being on my computer ALL THE TIME!  And we need to clear some stuff off of CoCo’s plate so she can focus on shooting and photo editing!  So, I think it’s time to hire a Studio Manager!!!

What are we looking for?

  • Part-time work – preferably at least 4 mornings/week, possibly an afternoon or two also
  • Someone who will fit in well with our little team, and wants to work together to grow and improve Krista Photography
  • Honest, detail-oriented, hard-working, creative, problem-solving go-getter who’s eager to learn – preferably someone fun :)
  • Experience with some combination of Mac computers, Microsoft Office, Customer Service, excellent Communication skills
  • Quickbooks, IT know-how, Lightroom &/or Photoshop a plus but NOT NECESSARY
  • You’ll need a car to get to my home office in Woburn – and you’ll be a lot happier if it’s not a long commute (trust me ;)
  • Someone who can start the sooner, the better!

What kinds of things could you be doing?

  • Client Communication – you’d be the main point of contact for most clients and handle all of their questions, as well as sending them updates and information for their shoots
  • Inbox Management – i.e. going through my inbox to weed out what’s personal, spam, stuff you can handle vs. stuff I should deal with
  • Quickbooks – I would LOVE someone I could train, or who knows QB already, to handle some of the data entry & invoicing in Quickbooks
  • Workflow Management –  keep up with where we are on each job and who’s supposed to be doing what, and keeping us on task
  • Shoot Workflow – uploading images to our proofing site & facebook, releasing images to clients, prepping discs of images for clients, etc.
  • Digital Asset Management – Help us manage & implement amore efficient off-site backup situation.
  • Marketing & Social Media projects
  • Updating & managing our website
  • Wedding Album Design
  • Administrative Tasks
  • Scheduling Assistants & Second Shooters
  • Digital Asset Management
  • IT Troubleshooting
  • Assisting at weddings
  • Various projects
  • Cleaning the office for meetings :)

Forever Family Portraits


Forever Family

For those of you who know us here at Krista Photography, you know that giving back is a big part of our brand, and a big part of who we are!  It’s important to me that my talents and my business be used for a greater good, and not just to bless those who can actually afford to hire me.  Thankfully, I’ve got an awesome team of people working with me who share that desire!  So, we brainstormed together how me might reach our community, and we came up with Forever Family Portraits!  On Saturday, November 23rd, we will be offering FREE family portraits for adoptive families!!  After my experiences working at orphanages all over the world, and CoCo’s experiences with friends who have adopted, and Amy’s experience as a social worker – it just seemed like a perfect fit!  We all really believe that adopting a child into your life is one of the most generous things you can do, so we want to bless and encourage these special families by giving them a photograph to celebrate their “Forever Family!”

Wanted: One Awesome Intern

When I started out in photography almost 12 years ago, my first job was assisting at a big wedding studio in Chicago.  I remember the very first task they gave me… shovel the sidewalk :)  I started at the very bottom of the food chain.  As months went by, I became the studio manager, and then began shooting as an Associate photographer for the company.  A few years later, I moved out on my own and started at the bottom again in a new town.  I have worked hard over the years since I moved to Boston to create a business that I love, and to develop a TEAM that I love.  It’s no fun working alone, and I think everyone benefits from being part of a team – learning to work together, encouraging and challenging each other, and everyone focusing on their strengths and doing their part to make the sum so much greater than the parts!

Over the years, I’ve tried to pay that first opportunity forward.  I’ve brought on interns almost every year, and it’s been great!  I get some much-needed help, and they have hopefully had the chance to learn things they couldn’t have learned in school.  A few years ago, CoCo came along as an intern, and now she’s working as an Associate Photographer, as well as designing albums, editing photos, and all sorts of other great stuff!  Amy came onto the team last year, and has been handling all of our Vendor Relations, and blogging, and lots of the marketing piece.  I am loving this little team we’ve built!  But, we’re looking at some big, exciting changes ahead (announcements coming soon!) and have a lot of projects on our plates, so we’re hoping to find a new intern to add to the team!!  If you’re interested, check out the details below to see if you’d be a good fit!!

Untouchable film campaign is ending!

After 28 1/2 days of running our campaign for the documentary film UNTOUCHABLE: Children of God, we are almost there!!  With 40 hours left to go, we have less than $3,000 to raise to meet our goal of $50,000!!!  I have been blown away by all of the support from my clients, friends, and fellow photographers!  So many people have given money, but also so many have just helped us spread the word – which is huge!  Last week, I was featured on two photography blogs about the project – LensProToGo Labs and Tiffinbox.  You can view my interview with Seshu from Tiffinbox below…

Spring Mini-Sessions — Saturday, May 11th

 Spring is here!  The trees out my window are budding, the daffodils are popping up and soon my whole yard will smell like lilacs!!  I CANNOT WAIT!!!  There’s something about 60 degree days that make me want to drive around with my windows down, listen to the Cranberries, and go for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream – haha, itmust have something to do with high school!  ;)

To celebrate the dawn of Spring, I thought we’d do another round of portrait Mini Sessions, just in time for Mother’s Day!  Sessions will be 15 minutes long and can include any number of people. Our selection of the best images will be edited and posted online for ordering prints, canvases & gifts.  Sessions cost $125, and will be held outdoors if possible (location near Woburn MA TBD based on mud & greenery conditions :)

Mourning for Boston

I’ve thought a lot about this photo since yesterday afternoon.  Thinking about how many of my friends had been RIGHT THERE just a few minutes or hours before.  Thinking about the shoot I did at the candy store that’s right next to the site of the first bombing.  Thinking about how it could have been just about anyone I know who was injured or killed yesterday, and how thankful I am that it wasn’t.  Thinking about how much worse it could have been, and what a blessing it is that so many first responders were in the area who probably saved many many lives.  And I’ve been praying for everyone involved – those who were hurt, the people who’s loved ones died, the emergency workers and photographers who witnessed so much horror, and the thousands of bystanders who are traumatized by the terror it caused.  It’s just so horrible.

Taking our Plan one step further…

Well, hello there! I’m Amy. If you are one of Krista’s many amazing brides then you’ve probably “talked” with me over email. I am the one looking for vendor information and asking for your sweet stories about the day. Anyway, here’s what I look like for future reference. :)

For some reason Krista and CoCo thought I fit the bill when they were looking for help last Spring. Yeah, ME! Gotta be honest, it kind of felt like I won the lottery the day the Krista called to offer me the job! I mean, I take a thousand pictures of my two wild, but wonderful, little dum-dums (CoCo’s term – which I now LOVE).

Let’s digress for a moment to meet them… you know, since they are my REAL bosses in life and all… This is Noah. He’s very very TWO. He will eat almost anything and he LOVES football.

As I was saying, I take a ridiculous number of pictures of my own little family and their friends. And the idea of working with REAL photographers was dreamy. But let’s be real here, I am a stay-at-home-mom/former social worker with ZERO experience in the world of professional photography. Good thing they liked me! :) So I came on board willing to do just about anything. I started with a little filing, runs to Target and Starbucks, a bit of organizing, some submissions for publication, and the like.

Oh, and I can’t forget about my cuddling with Harriett duties on the couch (aka – my desk). :)

So why, I’m sure you are wondering, am I introducing myself? Well, in our efforts to get this blog up to date I’ve been helping CoCo with the easy stuff, like picking images and listing vendors. Now that we are almost all caught up on weddings, we’ve decided to start blogging portrait sessions. That’s where I come in! Starting Wednesday we’ll be tossing a few portrait sessions in among the weddings. And those will be written by yours truly. :) EEK!!

Better late than never…

Well, where do I start? First of all, Hi! I’m CoCo, Krista Photography’s first ever Associate Photographer! Woohoo! That’s me – ain’t I creepy!?

In addition to fetching the occasional Chai Latte, designing albums, keeping in touch with clients and *trying* to run the show while Krista has been out of town, my cohort Amy and I have come up with a plan…. That’s her down there, isn’t she cute??

Anyways, THE PLAN. The better late than never plan to blog the 23, that’s right t-w-e-n-t-y  t-h-r-e-e beautiful couples that we have neglected over I’m not even going to say how much time. It’s not that we don’t love you!! We do! Promise! And these weddings and people are so pretty and lovely and awesome! Regardless of when they were shot. But you know how these things go, you get “a little” behind, then that becomes “a lot” behind then that becomes “A LOT” behind. We are not proud of this… BUT we have a plan! So here’s the deal:

EVERY week, for TWENTY THREE weeks, I, with the help of Amy, will be posting about a new couple: showcasing their engagement, wedding, and details for your viewing pleasure. So keep checking back with us on Monday Wednesday and Friday for some absolutely beautiful pictures! Or maybe just to make sure I’m still doing my job ;)

And remember it’s better late than never, pay no attention to the date or season… just focus on the LOVE. And wish us luck!
