Forever Family Portraits

Forever Family

For those of you who know us here at Krista Photography, you know that giving back is a big part of our brand, and a big part of who we are!  It’s important to me that my talents and my business be used for a greater good, and not just to bless those who can actually afford to hire me.  Thankfully, I’ve got an awesome team of people working with me who share that desire!  So, we brainstormed together how me might reach our community, and we came up with Forever Family Portraits!  On Saturday, November 23rd, we will be offering FREE family portraits for adoptive families!!  After my experiences working at orphanages all over the world, and CoCo’s experiences with friends who have adopted, and Amy’s experience as a social worker – it just seemed like a perfect fit!  We all really believe that adopting a child into your life is one of the most generous things you can do, so we want to bless and encourage these special families by giving them a photograph to celebrate their “Forever Family!”

We are SUPER excited for this event, and cannot wait to meet some really amazing families, and have an awesome time shooting some portraits for them!  To sign up, or get more details about the event, check out the invite on Facebook, or register directly here.  Please help us spread the word!!

Wanted: One Awesome Intern

When I started out in photography almost 12 years ago, my first job was assisting at a big wedding studio in Chicago.  I remember the very first task they gave me… shovel the sidewalk :)  I started at the very bottom of the food chain.  As months went by, I became the studio manager, and then began shooting as an Associate photographer for the company.  A few years later, I moved out on my own and started at the bottom again in a new town.  I have worked hard over the years since I moved to Boston to create a business that I love, and to develop a TEAM that I love.  It’s no fun working alone, and I think everyone benefits from being part of a team – learning to work together, encouraging and challenging each other, and everyone focusing on their strengths and doing their part to make the sum so much greater than the parts!

Over the years, I’ve tried to pay that first opportunity forward.  I’ve brought on interns almost every year, and it’s been great!  I get some much-needed help, and they have hopefully had the chance to learn things they couldn’t have learned in school.  A few years ago, CoCo came along as an intern, and now she’s working as an Associate Photographer, as well as designing albums, editing photos, and all sorts of other great stuff!  Amy came onto the team last year, and has been handling all of our Vendor Relations, and blogging, and lots of the marketing piece.  I am loving this little team we’ve built!  But, we’re looking at some big, exciting changes ahead (announcements coming soon!) and have a lot of projects on our plates, so we’re hoping to find a new intern to add to the team!!  If you’re interested, check out the details below to see if you’d be a good fit!!

Stephanie + Marc — Maine Backyard Wedding Details – xo, CoCo

Artsy backyard Maine wedding

It was so difficult to pick my favorites of Stephanie and Marc’s artsy, beautiful, and unique DIY details. The bride and groom were married in Stephanie’s parents’ backyard in  Maine that could easily be mistaken for a sculpture park, there is art everywhere! Krista and I had an amazing day with these two, not to mention their amazingly gracious friends and family. Take a look for yourself, how could I choose?!

The barn is just a short walk own from the main house, inside Stephanie draped colorful fabric from the ceiling. It created such a cool atmosphere.

Stephanie’s mom made pine and herb sachets for each guest, so simple but so wonderful, and of course, they smell just like Maine.

 Artsy backyard Maine wedding

Oh. My. Goodness. What an amazing weekend this was! I am so excited to share this with everyone. Stephanie and Marc are people of many talents. Marc is a composer and sound artist, Stephanie a photographer, sculptor, and writer, among many other things I’m sure :) They are thoughtful, caring, and stunningly beautiful, inside and out. Watching Stephanie’s face during Marc’s speech, and their expressions and interactions with each other and their guests throughout the weekend was such a joy. It was obvious that despite the beautiful flowers, clothing, jewelry and scenery, the most important thing to them was the people, family and friends alike. That’s what we like to see.

I apparently brought rain with me to Maine, the night of the rehearsal it was absolutely pouring. But Stephanie was unshaken, I met up with her briefly before the rehearsal in my boat shoes and yellow rain jacket, both already soaked through, and she excitedly exclaimed “You fit right in!” The dinner was held later that evening at The Slipway in Thomaston, the staff was great and the lobster to die for!

There were rain jackets and hugs aplenty during a short cocktail hour.

Untouchable film campaign is ending!

Screen Shot 2013-09-01 at 9.00.36 AM

After 28 1/2 days of running our campaign for the documentary film UNTOUCHABLE: Children of God, we are almost there!!  With 40 hours left to go, we have less than $3,000 to raise to meet our goal of $50,000!!!  I have been blown away by all of the support from my clients, friends, and fellow photographers!  So many people have given money, but also so many have just helped us spread the word – which is huge!  Last week, I was featured on two photography blogs about the project – LensProToGo Labs and Tiffinbox.  You can view my interview with Seshu from Tiffinbox below…

Lenspro screenshot

It seems like we’re right on track to hit our goal!  But now I have a new goal…  I want us to raise enough money that we can actually take home $50,000 for the film after the credit card processing fees and Indiegogo fees!  That’s another $4,000.  So, what do you think – can we raise $7,000 in the next 40 hours?!  With YOUR help, WE CAN!  Please take a moment to visit the fundraising page, make a donation in any amount you can, and share the link with your friends letting them know that time is running out.  Together, we can accomplish so much more than we ever could on our own!  Thank you for being part of this special project!

UNTOUCHABLE: Children of God

As many of you know, I’ve been working with an organization called Code Red Films on a film called UNTOUCHABLE: Children of God, about the sexual exploitation of the lowest caste girls of Nepal and India.  In the last year, our team has travelled to Nepal and India twice to gather footage.  We have seen terrible things, and heard stories that have brought us to tears.  We have met girls and young women who have experienced more suffering than any person should ever know.  We have met those who the caste system deems “untouchable”, yet who have been touched in terrible, violent ways.  We have seen the horror that is sex slavery, and we are determined to help bring an end to it.  We have looked into the eyes of some of few who have survived and escaped, and we have seen healing, we have seen HOPE.  We long to see more girls and women set free.  We long to see fewer girls cross the border into India and disappear forever.  We long to see brothels shut down, traffickers imprisoned, and victims given the chance at a new life.  We long to see the end of sex trafficking in Nepal and India forever.  And we need your help!

001-KDG_3464-Edit

FILM PROGRESS

  • We’ve taken hundreds of hours of interviews & footage, and I’ve shot more than 15,000 photographs over the course the two trips.
  • Code Red has launched both a new Website and a new Facebook Page where we’ll be posting helpful links, production stills, photographs, and updates on our progress.
  • Code Red Films has begun the process of becoming an official 501c3 non-profit
  • On August 12, 2012 we launched an Indiegogo fundraising campaign to raise the remaining $50,000 needed to complete post-production on the film.  We have just SEVEN DAYS left to do it!

Screen Shot 2013-09-01 at 9.00.36 AM

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN

I am writing to ask for your support!  We cannot do this alone, and we don’t want to.  The only way these girls will be free is if an entire movement of men and women rise up from all over the world to help them!  Our part of the mission is to raise the call, and to speak the truth and let their stories be heard.  Please give our voice the wings it needs to soar by taking ACTION:

  • Visit our Website, watch the trailer, and meet our team
  • Like our Facebook Page and invite your friends to like it too
  • Donate to our fundraising campaign – any amount will help and there’s no time to lose!
  • SHARE our story and our fundraising page with your friends and family – help spread the word!

112112_D1239

Thank you!

If you have any questions about the project, or my work, or about sex trafficking, or anything – please let me know!  Thank you so much for your support!  I am so blessed to be able to be a part of this project – and I literally could not do it without all of you and your support!!  THANK YOU!

They used a huge cork board made from wine bottle corks for the place cards – it was dreamy!  They had to drink a LOT of wine to make it, but I’m sure it was worth the effort ;)  Before they pinned all the cards on it, I had to play with it a bit!

I love getting to be a part of the rehearsal dinner, and the whole weekend of celebrations.  It’s such a great opportunity to meet all of your favorite people in the world and get everybody comfortable with being photographed by me.  So on the wedding day, not only are you totally comfortable and confident, but so are all your family and closest friends!  It’s so great!!!

Come back on Friday to see more for Lori & Jim’s FABULOUS wedding!  But if you can’t bear to wait, head on over to Facebook to check out all of my favorites from the weekend!
