Town Day was wicked awesome!

Ok, even though I’m not actually from Boston, the word “wicked” has worked it’s way into my vocabulary – much to the chagrin of my Chicago friends. Sorry guys! :) But, that’s exactly what Town Day was last weekend – awesome!

here’s my lovely booth (I tried to make it feel as much like home as possible):

And, this is my view of Town Day. I wish I could have walked around and checked out more of the vendors, but duty called…

I was up late every night the week prior, trying to get ready, and my roommates were right there with me being so incredibly helpful. Here they are – aren’t they cute (and working hard)? ;)

In the end, I had worried way too much because things went really well. My booth was right next to my church, Hope Christian Church, so I had friendly faces around all day – which is always good. And, I met a ton of people, which is really good! I raffled off a free portrait sitting, which got a lot of people interested, and I’ve even had a couple people contact me already to book a shoot.

The lucky winner of my raffle is…. Kathy Robinson of Winchester – who, as it turns out, was my sister’s neighbor a couple years ago! Crazy small world! I’m totally looking forward to Kathy’s shoot, so I hope she calls soon to book the date!

Thanks to everyone who helped me get ready for and pull off Town Day – it was a great day and I’m already looking forward to next year!

Maria & Paul’s Engagement Pics!

Last week I joined Maria & Paul at the Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop, MA for their engagement session. I met Maria last summer and hadn’t met Paul yet, so I was pretty excited to get together with them!

We had a great time shooting around the club! They both talked of being camera shy, but they did a great job and I think they were pretty comfy with it by the end. We hung out for a bit afterwards while they were waiting for some good friends to join them. I’m so glad I was able to stay and hang out – it was really fun chatting with them about travel and neices & nephews – you know, the important stuff! I think the wedding is going to be a blast, and I can’t wait till June 24th.

I love how the photos turned out – I hope you guys do too!

That’s why I do this!

Back in January, my friends Sarah, Tom & Brian hired me to shoot some portraits of them for their parents as a Christmas gift. We had a great time taking pictures around Winchester, and at their home in Woburn. I was really excited with how the photos turned out, and so were they (which is the whole idea, right?)

So, the other night I saw their Mom, Lisa. She’s just as nice as can be! She wanted to thank me for the “beautiful photos” and just went on and on about how much she loves them! She even started crying a little bit when she was talking about her favorites. Now, it’s not my goal in life to make people cry, but seriously – that’s why I do what I do! I LOVE that she connected with the photos. That she could look at these photos and see her children – not just what their faces look like, but who they are and what their relationships are like. THAT is what this is all about! Capturing people – the essence of who they are and how they feel about one another.

I love my job!

i heart chicago

After way too many months, I was able to go back to Chicago last week! It wass just quick visit, but it felt like being home again.

I spent the first 2 days attending the Pictage Partner Conference – which was awesome! I listened to speakers like Mike Larson, Liana Lehman, Nathan & Amber Holritz, David Greene, and more. They were incredibly inspiring and encouraging. I feel so motivated right now! I’m hoping to take what I learned and apply it to my business and my life – starting immediately!

Then I spent a couple extra days in the city with some friends. I spent much of my time working on my website. I love my design (thanks to Elizabeth Vincenty of Snapdragon Chicago) – but I find that it’s been unbelievably difficult to choose the photographs. So, I dedicated a good chunk of my time in Chicago towards editing photos for the site. I still have a lot of work to go, but hopefully, I’ll have some more links up and working soon!

While I was in town, I had the chance to stop by Real Life Weddings for a visit and see Steve & Chrisy and the rest of the team. It seems like every time I visit the studio, something is different. It’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year since I left for Boston!

I spent the rest of my trip catching up with good friends, eating good food, and just enjoying life in the city. I love the energy, the sound of people walking around outside, the gorgeous weather they’re having, the view, the skyline, the rooftops, the familiarity of it all! I miss Chicago, and city life so much sometimes – what a blessing this was for me to spend a few days “back home.”

Invisible Children Film Screening THIS FRIDAY 3/30

Can a story change the world?

In the spring of 2003, three young Americans traveled to Africa in search of such a story. What they found was a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them. A story where children are the weapons and the victims. The Invisible Children: Rough Cut film exposes the effects of a 20-year-long war on the children of Northern Uganda. Children who live in fear of abduction by rebel soldiers, and are being forced to fight as part of a violent army. This wonderfully reckless documentary is fast paced, with an MTV beat, and is truly unique. To see Africa through young eyes is humorous and heart breaking, quick and informative – all in the same breath.

See this film, you will be forever changed.

Genesis, a ministry of Hope Christian Church,
will be screening the film Invisible Children: Rough Cut

on Friday, March 30 at 7:30 PM

at Hope Christian Church (58 Mt. Vernon St., Winchester MA).

Come, bring some friends, see the film, hear from the Invisible Children team, and see what you can do to help.
