After feeling all awkward about being photographed at the Headshot Shootout, and not having seen the great results yet, I thought it’d be good to have someone I KNOW I’m comfortable being photographed by take a stab at getting a new headshot. For me, that person is obviously CoCo! She was planning on swinging by the office that week anyway, so I figured we might as well photograph each other and both get some pics that are a good match to our typical style. I mean, I LOVE the images my friends captured – but anything CoCo shoots is definitely going to look more like it belongs on our website since she’s all over the site already. That, plus I tend to prefer more environmental portraits, and my normally curly hair just feels more like me. And now I have one million photos of myself to choose from – so that’s enough to last another seven years I think! Anyway, check out my favorite portraits I made of CoCo first…
Photographers Photographing Photographers, part deux
As I mentioned in my last post, a few of my photographer friends recently got together for a Headshot Shootout at one of their studios. It was pretty much an excuse to get together to chat and drink champagne, plus get some fresh headshots while we were at it! I haven’t updated my official headshot since like 2012, so I figured it was, um, time. It was totally fun to see everyone and hang out, and naturally a nightmare to be photographed. See, I’m just like you. I don’t enjoy that side of the camera any more than anyone else – especially since I’ve gained a lot of weight in recent years. I just feel a little more self-conscious than I used to. I feel a little less like myself, so I’m less comfortable (not that I started out enjoying it or anything, lol). So, I awkwardly sat in front of my friends and let them shoot me in the face, and it was super awkward but really encouraging and interesting to see the results! We all had access to the same lighting and just the one background to work with, but the photos still turned out different. It was fun to see how different each photographer’s shooting style and editing style was different. I thought I’d share some of the results here so you could get a taste!
Photographers Photographing Photographers
Recently, a few of my photographer friends got together for a Headshot Shootout… basically a little party with some photographing each other in between glasses of champagne. It was totally fun to see everyone and hang out! I thought I’d share some of my favorite photos that I took that day. I wish I’d shot more… I was too busy feeling nervous about being photographed myself, and changing clothes like 30 times I guess. Also, shooting more formal portraits with a backdrop and light set up doesn’t feel as natural to me, so I tended to shoot from the side a bit. Anyway, I did get a few that I really loved, check em out!
Headshots
Occasionally, I photograph headshots for small businesses, non-profits, artists, and individuals. My philosophy and approach are simple: relaxed, natural portraits of people being themselves. Pricing starts at $150 per person and varies based on the complexity of the shoot, the location, the need for backdrops/lighting/assistants, etc. Please contact us to discuss your vision and schedule your portraits!
McGarry Family Chiropractic – Winchester, MA
So, when Lieschen told me she was working on a new website for the office and needed some photographs, I was thrilled to work with her on them!
We started out with some headshots…
Gorgeous, and talented – gotta love it!
This is Maggie, one of the office assistants
And Jessica
They’re a great team!
This is the view from the adjustment room – that’s lovely downtown Winchester
Dr. McGarry explaining Subluxation Degeneration to a patient
Two of the adorable babies she treats
A big part of Dr. McGarry’s practice, is working with families and children. A lot of people freak out at the idea of adjusting children, but she’s incredibly gentle. We photographed her adjusting some babies and kids, so people could see what that looks like.
See, smiling faces :)
Thanks Lieschen for such a fun and different shoot! And thank you especially for all the care you’ve given me over the last couple years! I don’t know how I’d make it through a wedding season without you :)
Portraits for Mimi
That’s my Mom – or Mimi as her grandkids call her. She’s pretty great. She owns her own business and has worked her butt off for as long as I can remember (except those 2 years when I was a kid and we lived in the Bahamas – when she played Bridge and sat by the pool with me all day, but whatever ;). The older I get, the more I realize that I am so much like her – or is it that I’m just becoming more like her? Either way, it’s both a little scary and comforting at the same time :)
My Mom needed some new photos of herself and her employees for work – and hopefully for a website someday… Mom works in the glamorous world of nursing home consulting, and that market hasn’t really gotten too techy just yet ;) Since she’s the most wonderful Mom, she hired her daughter to take the photos. And since she’s the most wonderful boss, she offered all of her employees the opportunity to get some family portraits done as well! So, when I was in Indianapolis earlier this summer, we headed down to Greenwood (the town I was born in) to spend some time with the women of Herrin Associates, and their families…
First up, my Mom, Shelia. She doesn’t really like having her picture taken (kinda like me), but has started getting used to it over the past 6 or 7 years. Do you think I look like her?
and Beth’s husband and 4 grandchildren
The kids weren’t too excited about the whole thing, but they put up with me, and we managed to get some great shots of them!
And then there’s Kathy! Kathy’s family wasn’t able to come for photos, so we just stuck to business…
…at least mostly. I got her laughing quite a bit when I was asking her about whether or not my Mom’s a good boss :)
And last but not least was Nancy. Nancy has worked for my Mom for like 20 years, and is such a great lady!
She brought a bunch of her family with her and we got a ton of portraits of them – starting with her son and his adorable daughter…
Then we shot Nancy and her husband with their grandson, Garrett.
Then it was just Nancy & Ernie. They’re pretty cute!
While we waited for Nancy’s daughter to get off work, my Mom & I took Garrett across the street for some ice cream from this little walk-up place, called Mrs. Curl. It’s so small-town Indiana, I love it! (I loved the ice cream too!)
Last up was Brittany and Garrett.
I swear I’m good with kids! Really! I think Garrett was just squinting, not snarling!
Brittany arrived just as the sun dropped down to the perfect spot, so we got some beautiful, warm light to play with…
And I’m fairly certain that this was Garrett’s favorite part (next to the ice cream, of course).
It was such a fun afternoon! Thanks Mom for letting me take your picture :) And for being such a great role model for this business-owning daughter of yours. I’m amazed by all that you’ve done, and all that you’re doing – and I’m super proud of you! I love you so much!!! S.W.A.K. ;)
Lindsey’s Headshots
In other news, I had an awesome shoot on Tuesday with my dear friend, Lindsey. Lindsey leads worship at Genesis and has the most amazing voice! She’s getting her Masters at the New England Conservatory and has her big recital coming up soon (but not too soon, right Linz?). Besides all of that talent, she’s an all around wonderful person and a joy to be near. It was so fun to hang out with her down at school and take some photos. Check her out…
I mean, could she be any prettier??
