Stephanie + Marc — Maine Backyard Wedding Details – xo, CoCo

Artsy backyard Maine wedding

It was so difficult to pick my favorites of Stephanie and Marc’s artsy, beautiful, and unique DIY details. The bride and groom were married in Stephanie’s parents’ backyard in  Maine that could easily be mistaken for a sculpture park, there is art everywhere! Krista and I had an amazing day with these two, not to mention their amazingly gracious friends and family. Take a look for yourself, how could I choose?!

The barn is just a short walk own from the main house, inside Stephanie draped colorful fabric from the ceiling. It created such a cool atmosphere.

Stephanie’s mom made pine and herb sachets for each guest, so simple but so wonderful, and of course, they smell just like Maine.

Oh. My. Goodness. What an amazing weekend this was! I am so excited to share this with everyone. Stephanie and Marc are people of many talents. Marc is a composer and sound artist, Stephanie a photographer, sculptor, and writer, among many other things I’m sure :) They are thoughtful, caring, and stunningly beautiful, inside and out. Watching Stephanie’s face during Marc’s speech, and their expressions and interactions with each other and their guests throughout the weekend was such a joy. It was obvious that despite the beautiful flowers, clothing, jewelry and scenery, the most important thing to them was the people, family and friends alike. That’s what we like to see.

I apparently brought rain with me to Maine, the night of the rehearsal it was absolutely pouring. But Stephanie was unshaken, I met up with her briefly before the rehearsal in my boat shoes and yellow rain jacket, both already soaked through, and she excitedly exclaimed “You fit right in!” The dinner was held later that evening at The Slipway in Thomaston, the staff was great and the lobster to die for!

There were rain jackets and hugs aplenty during a short cocktail hour.

Sooooo Marc needed Stephanie to do his hair for him…without seeing her…So naturally, Stephanie’s sisters just put a blind fold on him!

Stephanie’s sister Caroline made this birdcage veil for her. I think it completed her look perfectly.

Krista was my second shooter for the day and grabbed these two shots just before the ceremony started. The guests were arranged in a semi circle around the couple, in the sprawling backyard of the house, it’s like  sculpture park out there!

As I said Stephanie is an artist of many mediums, she draped the ceiling of the barn with gorgeous colorful fabric and lanterns. It created such a fun atmosphere.

I tied this bow myself!  And yes, it came undone as she walked down the aisle.  Let this be a lesson to all of you brides:  make sure there is someone else there, besides your photographer, to help you get dressed!  haha!

Ashley & Scott Anniversary Portraits – Lewiston, Maine

This blog you are visiting was designed by my very creative friend, Ashley!  She worked so hard on this project and, in my opinion, did a fabulous job!  A few weeks ago, I got to return the favor and take some photographs of her and her husband Scott.  Like too many people I know, Ashley & Scott didn’t have a professional photographer shoot their wedding, and they have no photos from the day to remember it all.  That just kills me :(  But it made me doubly excited to take some great photos of them to share with their grand kids one day!!

Sara & Steve’s Wedding – Gerrish Island, Maine

Sara & Steve‘s wedding was planned to be outdoors at Sara’s parents’ home by the ocean up in Maine.  But the day ended up being a wet one… I mean, it did not stop raining for a moment all day!  They didn’t let it ruin anything though – the wedding was beautiful and everyone had a marvelous time!

The day started at the Hilton Garden Inn in Portsmouth as everyone got ready.  There were some great moments as the anticipation grew!

My assistant, Elizabeth, captured this shot of Steve’s daughter with Sara

Sara was just glowing!

Sara’s flowers were gorgeous!  Her mom did all the floral design, and it was so fabulous, there will be a whole separate post for the details!

Since the ocean view was out of the question for the portraits, we had to get creative.  The porch ended up being an excellent replacement, and with the help of Elizabeth and an umbrella we were able to give them some space for some naturally relaxed portraits.

Sara & Steve – thank you so much for having us there to document your day!  It ended up being such a lovely wedding, and such a fun party!  I’m so glad you didn’t let the rain get you down :)  I hope you love the photos!!
